Favorite Books

I’ve read a decent amount of books the past couple of years. Some I liked, didn’t like and some I loved. I’m captured by the storyline each book has and the plot twists. These are some of my favorite books that I have not mentioned on Wondrous Abyss.

  • Adultery by Paulo Coelho

First, let me say that the protagonist pissed me off so many times with her stupidity and the shit she does. The story is about a married woman who feels that her life is not satisfying and seeks ways to make it exciting. She is struggling to find a balance between her routine lifestyle and the need for something new.

My favorite quote from this book:

“We aren’t who we want to be. We are what society demands. We are what our parents choose. We don’t want to disappoint anyone; we have a great need to be loved. So we smother the best in us. Gradually, the light of our dreams turns into the monster of our nightmares. They become things not done, possibilities not lived.”
  • The Spy by Paulo Coelho

The Spy is about a woman named Mata Hari, who was a Dutch exotic dancer and allegedly a German spy. This story is based on true events which lead to Mata Hari’s execution. I loved how Paulo Coelho told the life of Mata Hari and what lead up to her execution. This woman lived a crazy lifestyle. From being a housewife who was beaten by her husband, to becoming an exotic dancer and allegedly a German spy. Her story is fascinating for anyone who loves history and who likes a good story.

My favorite quote from this book:

“You are born, go to school, and attend university in search of a husband. You get married - even if he is the worse man in the world - just so that others can't say no one wants you. You have children, grow old, and spend the end of your days watching passersby from a chair on the sidewalk, pretending to know everything about life yet unable to silence the voice in your heart that says: "You could try something else.”
  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

If you haven’t read this book or seen the movie, where have you been? This story is insane! Gone Girl is a mystery trying to find out what exactly happened to Amy Dunne. This book is a page-turner and you will not want to put it down.

My favorite quote from this book:

“My gosh, Nick, why are you so wonderful to me?'
He was supposed to say: You deserve it. I love you.
But he said, 'Because I feel sorry for you.'
'Because every morning you have to wake up and be you.”
  • Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

I loved this book!!! It was a little different than the HBO series based on the book, but both were so good. Big Little Lies is a perfect mix of a mystery, comedy, crazy story that will keep you captivated. From the first few pages, you’re already trying to solve a murder. The twist at the end of the book with who was murdered and who is the murderer will leave you SHOOK!

My favorite quote from this book:

“Did anyone really know their child? Your child was a little stranger, constantly changing, disappearing and reintroducing himself to you. New personality traits could appear overnight.”
  • Brida by Paulo Coelho

This book is about a young girl named Brida, seeking her destiny to become a witch. She meets a man who lives in the forest and teaches her everything she needs to know about becoming a witch. The journey she goes through is interesting. What the man teaches her opens up her mind to a whole new world she wasn’t sure existed.

My favorite quote from this book:

“But how will I know who my Soulmate is?” Brida felt that this was one of the most important questions she had ever asked in her life. By taking risks’ she said to Brida. ‘By risking failure, disappointment, disillusion, but never ceasing in your search for Love. As long as you keep looking, you will triumph in the end.”
